Tipah tertipu, tipu tertipah

Lihat iklan dibawah ini....

Menyelerakan tak? Ada logo halal lagi!

But sadly, this flyer is another case of manipulation by some irresponsible, insensitive, money-greed business owners who are always taking advantage against the Malay/Muslim community in Singapore, especially in the holy month of Ramadan.

Below are excerpts from Ms Mashita Ahmad's email on her enquiry on the halal status of that particular eating establishment.

Dear Friends

I received an e-mail flyer on 5 Sep 2008 about this Ramadan Season break fast buffet style at Straits Cafe@Rendezvous from 1 - 30 Sep 2008. Besides the price, there is this MUIS HALAL Logo.

I called them on 5 and 6 Sep 2008, they told me that the restaurant is not certified halal by MUIS but the food served is NO PORK & LARD. I was shocked to hear this given that the flyer in the e-mail do have the MUIS HALAL Logo.
I called MUIS regarding this and at the same time e-mail to MUIS of the flyer. Below is the reply from them.

To all my MUSLIMs Friends..please let the rest of our MUSLIMS brother and sister knows about this...Thank you.

ENQUIRY TO MUIS

Hi Sayidah

Please refer to our tele-conversation, below is the e-mail.

According to the Hotel Operator, and the this restaurant (twice) on 5 Sep and 6 Sep, they confirmed that they do not certified halal and it is no pork and lard for the food served.

Please check and let me know. Thank you.

Mashita Ahmad

REPLY FROM MUIS

Assalamualaikum wr wb
Dear Ms Mashita Ahmad

Thank you for your email and feedback.

This is to confirm that no Halal certificate has been issued to Straits Cafe located at Rendezvous Hotel. However, Muis has issued a Halal certificate to one of their central kitchen which is not meant for Strait Cafe. The flyer is misleading and we will take enforcement action against the company for using Muis Halal Certification mark without approval.

We would not have issued a Halal certificate if Straits Cafe serves alcoholic beverages.

The recent news of 'halal' pork found sold at NTUC Supermarket (read here), has gained island wide media coverage, but nothing much were disclosed on the actions taken for the offence. This is an outraged.

It is very unfortunate that cases like these are still being heard of after many awareness programmes, campaigns, promotions on halal food products for consumers in Singapore. However, it is more unfortunate that not much are being done by MUIS to explicate the seriousness of the offence to the public, hence the community are taking the halal certification and the halal logo for granted. MUIS has not been taking firm actions against offenders. That's why people are manipulating these.

I would wish to see a 'swift & severe' punishment to those who had perpetrated the offence. If not, a public apology, at least.

ps: MUIS, we really need to know what penalty given and shouldn't it be publicised?
